Early Prototype Transparent Smartphone Featured In Hands On Video

We don’t know why anyone would want a full transparent smartphone but it seems some companies (like Polytron which made this) are bent on making this happen.

Here’s a look into the current state of the technology which may one day power a transparent smartphone. This device is a prototype featured in this hands on video by Mobile Geeks.

Isco, Ronaldo lead Real Madrid to 3-1 win over Athletic Bilbao

Francisco "Isco" Alarcon scored twice and Cristiano Ronaldo added another goal on Sunday to give Real Madrid a 3-1 win over Athletic Bilbao with the club's drawn-out negotiations to sign Gareth Bale approaching the close of the summer transfer window.

Madrid have until Monday evening to close the deal for Bale with Tottenham. Media reports place Madrid's offer in the range of the record 80-million pound (€93.9-million) fee paid to Manchester United for Ronaldo in 2009.

After not scoring in Madrid's first two wins to start the Spanish league season, Ronaldo headed in Madrid's second goal in first-half injury time to add to Isco's 26th-minute opener from Karim Benzema's pass.

Isco scored twice and Cristiano Ronaldo added another goal
to give Real Madrid a 3-1 win over Athletic Bilbao.

Benzema assisted Isco again in the 73rd for his third goal in as many games since joining from Malaga this offseason.

"Things are going well considering we have just started the season, three for three so far," said the 21-year-old Isco. "We are getting better game by game. That's our goal."

Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti started Diego Lopez instead of Iker Casillas for the third straight match, but the goalkeeper could do nothing to stop substitute Ibai Gomez from getting Bilbao's consolation goal in the 79th.

Barcelona visit Valencia later, while Atletico Madrid are at Real Sociedad, Sevilla host Malaga, and Espanyol play Real Betis. Before the match started, Madrid dismantled a stage they had set up inside the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium last weekend supposedly for Bale's presentation. It is expected to go back up soon with the market set to close and Tottenham having spent €100 million ($133 million) this summer and with the chance to make most of that back by selling their star player.

Isco poked his first goal under goalkeeper Iago Herrerin after Benzema set him up with a scooped pass made easier by Bilbao's Andoni Iraola who failed to move forward with the rest of the defensive line, leaving Isco onside to take the ball alone in the area.

Benat Etxebarria almost leveled for Bilbao with a free kick on the half-hour mark, but a misplaced pass Madrid threaten on the counterattack with Isco and Benzema leading the way.

Ronaldo extended the hosts' lead by running free to head Angel Di Maria's dipping free kick into the corner of the net. The Portugal forward was denied another goal by Herrerin in the 68th when he made a one-handed parry to push Ronaldo's driving free kick around his post.

Isco fired in Madrid's third after controlling Benzema's short cross with one touch and scored to ensure Bilbao would suffer their first loss of the season following two victories.

Liverpool 1-0 Manchester United

Liverpool 1-0 Manchester United – as it happened

Daniel Sturridge scored in the fourth minute and Liverpool hung on for their third successive 1-0 victory in the Premier League.

Daniel Sturridge provided a fitting tribute to the memory of Bill Shankly with a fourth-minute winner against Manchester United to maintain Liverpool's 100 per cent start to the Barclays Premier League season.

Monday would have been Shankly's 100th birthday, and it will be celebrated with Liverpool back in their customary position as winners, with Sturridge now bagging the only goal in all three matches so far.

In contrast, Manchester United manager David Moyes endured a depressing day.

He failed to claim a hoped-for first win at Anfield following 12 unsuccessful visits with Everton.

If that was not bad enough, Wayne Rooney faces a few weeks on the sidelines with the head injury sustained in training on Saturday, and with the transfer window closing at 11pm on Monday night, Moyes is still to make his first significant signing.

Not that United's travails will bother Liverpool, who dominated the opening half, then had enough defensive muscle to resist the visitors' late rally.

If United's first half was bad, spare a thought for Roy Hodgson.

The England manager now knows he will be without Rooney for the vital World Cup qualfiers with Moldova and Ukraine.

In addition, he saw Phil Jones limp off after the defender landed awkwardly jumping for a routine header.

To top it off, he was forced to watch from a seat normally afforded to visiting scouts as a result of what he was told was a "clerical error".

It seemed a pretty woeful oversight on a day when the presence of Victor Moses, Mamadou Sakho and Tiago Ilori in the directors' box showed Liverpool's intent for the last day of the transfer window.

At least Hodgson had Sturridge's form to console him on the drive down to St George's Park.

Liverpool's match-winner against Stoke and Aston Villa on the Reds' perfect opening to the season, Sturridge bagged another as the hosts made a lightning start.

The former Chelsea man had already given warning of his threat when he seized on the loose ball after Jordan Henderson had harassed Ashley Young into a mistake. Rio Ferdinand turned away his shot on that occasion.

But when Daniel Agger leapt highest at the corner, Sturridge was afforded far too much room inside the six-yard area to turn the ball home.

It was the kind of start Moyes must have dreaded, raising the decibel level of an already pretty raucous occasion.

Robin van Persie was not far away with an overhead kick after Patrice Evra had knocked down a Ryan Giggs free-kick, but largely it was an opening period of unremitting frustration for the visitors.
Van Persie was one of three United players cautioned and the half ended with an angry exchange of words between Steven Gerrard and Van Persie, whose focus appeared to have slipped somewhat after an earlier tangle with Agger.

It was not that Liverpool were creating lots of opportunities, David de Gea saved a decent curling free-kick from Gerrard after Glen Johnson's powerful burst had been halted unfairly and the excellent Philippe Coutinho curled a free-kick over the crossbar, but Liverpool's main advantage came through their control of the game, with Lucas outstanding alongside his captain in that crucial central midfield area.

United did return with a bit more purpose at least.

Michael Carrick started to find his passing range, which allowed Young, and then his replacement Nani to threaten from wide positions.

Still, United's increased attacking threat came at the exposure of their defence, and the risk of a killer second.

Nemanja Vidic almost gifted it to Liverpool with an underhit back-pass that had De Gea rushing to clear as Johnson closed in.

Nani forced Simon Mignolet into his best save of the match 15 minutes from time, just before Johnson became the latest member of Hodgson's squad to depart, limping pretty badly after a crunching clash with Patrice Evra.

Van Persie could not make the most of a late opportunity provided by Javier Hernandez, and although five additional minutes of injury time brought a few nerves, in the end it was the hosts who came closest to scoring, De Gea brilliantly turning over Raheem Sterling's powerful drive.

3 - Villarreal: Sergio Asenjo; Mario, Musacchio, Dorado, Jaume Costa; Trigueros (Pina, m.69), Bruno; Aquino, Jonathan Pereira (Uche, m.73), Cani; y Perbet (Giovani dos Santos, m.63).

Goles: 0-1, m.22: Perbet. 0-2, m.30: Aquino. 0-3, m.75: Uche.

Osasuna 0-3 Villarreal: The Yellow Submarine blasts Osasuna out of the water

Osasuna came into this match desperately needing points and goals, both of which have been very few and far between in the first two weeks of the season, while Villarreal are looking to achieve their best start in their club’s history with three straight wins.

In the beginning neither side looked to a have definitive edge, despite Villarreal having the majority of possession, it was Osasuna who created the most chances in the first fifteen minutes of play.

That was short-lived as Villarreal quickly took control of the match, creating chance and flustering the Osasuna defense.

Their first strike came on a defensive error, as Javier Aquino fired in a cross, that found newcomer Jeremy Perbet, who bobbled the pass, weaved around  Roberto, then fired it between the keeper’s legs to put his side up 1-0.

However, things would get worse before they got better for Osasuna, who were powerless to stop a brilliant chip in by Javier Aquino off a deflected cross, to put Villarreal up 0-2 in the 30th minute.

In the second half, Osasuna were absolutely lifeless and Villarreal ran rampant on the attack, continually pressing the Pamplona side, despite several substitutions.

Things came to a head when Villarreal manager, Marcelino brought in Mexican winger, Giovani Dos Santos, who was rested for the first half by design and would have come on in the final thirty minutes anyway, but seemed as if Marcelino was also trying to send a message.

The message was heard loud and clear by Osasuna and La Liga as Javier Aquino found a streaking Giovani Dos Santos, who performed a running backheel that found Uche in the middle of the penalty box for the third goal of the evening.

The match was effectively over after that display, and while Osasuna got off one or two more shots, it was clear they were out matched and drained emotionally as well as physically.

Villarreal, on the other hand, have the look of an early favourite to make the Champions League in their first year back and won this match without their best player, Dos Santos, on the pitch.

STATISTIK

FC Schalke 04

Schalke 04 2-0 Leverkusen

FARFAN SHINES AS SCHALKE PICK UP FIRST WIN

Gelsenkirchen - Bayer 04 Leverkusen passed up the chance to move above FC Bayern Munich in the table, as an impressive display from FC Schalke 04 saw them pick up their first three points of the Bundesliga season courtesy of a 2-0 win at the Veltins Arena.

Kevin-Prince Boateng made his Royal Blues debut, but it was Jefferson Farfan who stole the show, providing the assist for Marco Höger's opener before scoring the second from the spot himself.

Strutting his stuff

The opening quarter of an hour began with both sides adopting a risk-averse approach to proceedings, new boy Boateng's audacious attempt from 30 yards was the only real highlight. Signed from Italian club AC Milan this week, the Ghanaian international's positional awareness in behind Adam Szalai provided a constant threat for Schalke, while his link-up play with Julian Draxler was seemed effortless at times.

With chances at a premium, Leverkusen’s formidable front three began creating space for marauding full-backs Giulio Donati and Sebastian Boenisch by dropping further infield. The two troubled the home side with their accurate crossing, but left the visitors vulnerable on the break, which ultimately led to the opening goal. A handball from backtracking Leverkusen centre-half Ömer Toprak, under pressure from Szalai, allowed Farfan to whip in a curling free-kick from 30 yards which took the slightest of touches off Höger's shoulder before nestling in the back of the net.

Schalke chances

The excitement surrounding the Boateng's signing was justified just before the break after his jinking run handed Draxler a chance to extend the hosts' lead, only for the Germany international to fire past the near post having beaten two men - a let-off which did not escape the attention of Leverkusen coach Sami Hyypiä, whose frustrations were starting to show as the sides went in at half-time.

However, the Finn couldn't exact a change in his side during the break as the start of the second-half saw Schalke’s pressing render Leverkusen’s midfield trio of Lars Bender, Gonzalo Castro and Stefan Reinartz null and void. The Royal Blues, meanwhile, continued creating chances with their attacking trio of Boateng, Draxler and Farfan running amok from the platform created by Höger and Roman Neustädter at the base of midfield.

Farfan seals it

Indeed, Boateng had the best chance of the second period in the 65th minute, but saw his header denied by the outstretched hand of Bernd Leno. Leverkusen resorted to breaking on the counter-attack, one of which was spurned by Heung-Min Son whose indecisive twisting and turning meant he failed to pick out his better-placed runners, before Emir Spahic headed wide from a late corner.

Leverkusen came to rue their missed chances, as their pressing for a goal left them cruelly exposed at the back. Farfan’s pace drew a foul out of Spahic inside the box, and the Peruvian converted the resulting penalty, finding the top corner to complete a convincing win for Jens Keller's charges.

Paris SG 2-0 Guingamp

PSG scores two late goals to beat Guingamp 2-0

Zlatan Ibrahimovic ended his scoring drought as Paris Saint-Germain scored twice in injury time to secure a scrappy 2-0 home win against newly-promoted Guingamp in the French league on Saturday.

PSG's expensively assembled squad again failed to show the flair to match its heavy financial backing and needed a handling error from visiting goalkeeper Mamadou Samassa to break the deadlock. In the first minute of injury time, 18-year-old substitute Adrien Rabiot kneed the ball over the line after Samassa palmed a shot into his path.

Two minutes later, Ibrahimovic ran onto a long pass, muscled defender Jeremy Sorbon off the ball and slotted it past Samassa for his first goal in five games this season.

Earlier, Lyon's losing streak increased to four matches after being defeated 2-1 at Evian.

A. Rabiot (90+1), Z. Ibrahimovic (90+3)

Paris SG : Sirigu - Thiago Silva, Alex, Maxwell, Van der Wiel - Matuidi, Pastore, Lavezzi - Cavani, Ibrahimovic.

Guingamp: Samassa - Martins-Pereira, Sorbont, Diallo, Lemaître - Beauvue, Sankharé, Mathis (cap) - Kerbra, Atik, Yatabaré

Cardiff City 0 - 0 Everton

Battling Bluebirds earn vital point amid penalty controversy

Malky Mackay's Cardiff team produced a disciplined display to hold Everton, who were rightly aggrieved at not being awarded a first-half penalty

Cardiff City bagged another precious Premier League point as Everton were left to bemoan the penalty that never was.

Everton's first visit to the Welsh capital since September 1979 was mired in controversy when Leighton Baines fell under Gary Medel's 41st minute challenge.

As penalties go it belonged to the stonewall category, but referee Anthony Taylor simply waved play away much to the relief of the Chilean who had riskily gone to ground.

Ironically, Cheshire official Taylor was the man who had so irked Arsene Wenger on the opening day of the season when awarding Aston Villa two penalties at the Emirates Stadium.

On the back of that amazing 3-2 win over Manchester City, Bluebirds boss Malky Mackay named an unchanged team and adopted the same tactical game-plan.

Deny Everton space where it mattered and hit Fraizer Campbell, a two-goal hero last week, on the counter. And, just like seven days earlier, Cardiff were more dangerous after the break.

It wasn't enough to get all three points this time, but a draw against a well-drilled Everton side is not to be sniffed at and it maintains the Bluebirds' unbeaten home record.
The first half was a story of Everton possession and Cardiff resistance as the Bluebirds defended in numbers and seldom threatened.

When they did it was similar to the problems posed against Manchester City, the dead-ball delivery of Craig Bellamy and Peter Whittingham right on the money.

Tim Howard just about kept out a Whittingham corner arrowed in to his near-post after Aron Gunnarsson had proved a nuisance amid the penalty-box traffic.

But apart from Fraizer Campbell intercepting a Gunnarsson pass which was rolling into the path of Whittingham, that was as good as it got for Cardiff in the first period.

Everton were patient as befitting a Roberto Martinez side and carved out some decent chances, the impressive Ross Barkley seeing his shot blocked after a touch of Premier League class from Steven Pienaar.

Kevin Mirallas wasted two inviting headers when unmarked and after the Baines penalty incident Everton almost took the lead deep into first half stoppage time.

Pienaar played in Seamus Coleman down the right and Nikica Jelavic's header deflected off Ben Turner to wrongfoot David Marshall in the Cardiff goal.

But the Scot somehow twisted his body to keep the ball out and the scoreline blank at the interval.

The game opened up after the break with Jelavic stabbing wide a Barkley through ball but Cardiff were now more of an attacking force.

Kim Bo-kyung slid in Craig Bellamy after the Wales striker's run inside Baines had caught the England full-back napping, but the touch past Howard was too heavy.

Everton were still wary at set-pieces as the pace of the contest refused to die and Cardiff kept firm at the back, Baines firing wide from 25 yards their best sight of goal in the final quarter.

Lyon 1-2 Evian

Lyon's poor form continues with 2-1 loss at Evian

Lyon's losing streak increased to four matches after being defeated 2-1 at Evian in the French league on Saturday.

Striker Kevin Berigaud twice exposed poor defending to put Evian 2-0 up at halftime before midfielder Jordan Ferri pulled a goal back shortly after the break.

Lyon lost 1-0 to Reims last weekend and failed to reach the Champions League's group stage after being defeated twice by Real Sociedad.

Failure to qualify will impact on the club's precarious finances. Lyon needs money and president Jean-Michel Aulas is trying to sell star striker Bafetimbi Gomis before the summer transfer window closes Monday night — — with Premier League club Newcastle eager to sign him — but the striker so far refuses to go and has been banished from the first team.

Lyon has one of the most highly reputed academies in European football and Ferri was one of five homegrown players in the starting lineup with a further six on the bench. It would have been six in the starting team, but midfielder Clement Grenier was absent.

Striker Kevin Berigaud gave Evian the lead in the eighth minute when he ran onto Olivier Sorlin's pass behind the defense and finished with a powerful shot. Cedric Barbosa should have made it 2-0 just minutes later, but missed an easy chance in front of goal.

For his second goal in the 33rd, Beriguad easily found a gap between center halves Bakary Kone and Milan Bisevac before giving goalkeeper Anthony Lopes no chance with a clinical finish.

Ferri's first league goal in professional football came when he picked up a loose ball and drilled a powerful shot into the top corner in the 49th.

Later Saturday, big-spending Paris Saint-Germain was hosting newly-promoted Guingamp.

Also, it is: Bastia vs. Toulouse; Lorient vs. Valenciennes; Reims vs. Nantes; Rennes vs. Lille; and Sochaux vs. Ajaccio.

Leader Marseille takes on second-place Monaco, Saint-Etienne hosts Bordeaux, and Nice faces Montpellier in Sunday's games.

Team News

Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny will return from a one-match domestic suspension for Sunday's Premier League clash against Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium.

Midfielder Mathieu Flamini is likely to go straight into the squad having rejoined his old club this week on a free transfer from AC Milan, as Aaron Ramsey has recovered from a groin problem, but forward Lukas Podolski is set for up to three months out with a torn hamstring.

Defender Thomas Vermaelen and midfielder Mikel Arteta continue their rehabilitation, along with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Abou Diaby.

Roberto Soldado has scored two Premier League goals for Spurs so far, both from the penalty spot.
Last season Spurs did not get a single penalty

Meanwhile, Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon is a doubt with a foot injury.

Defender Benoît Assou-Ekotto and striker Emmanuel Adebayor will not feature as they are not fully fit, while star forward Gareth Bale will also miss the game as he edges closer to a move to Real Madrid.

New defender Vlad Chiriches is unlikely to feature while striker Jermain Defoe and midfielder Lewis Holtby are pushing for starts after impressing in Tottenham's 3-0 win over Dinamo Tbilisi.

Match Notes

All eyes will be on the Emirates pitch for 90 minutes tomorrow but the minds of most Arsenal fans are on the transfer window.

With no cash signings themselves, the various comings and goings at Spurs are being looked at with increasing frustration and perhaps even envy.

A glance at the two benches will certainly add weight to the theory that Tottenham's squad is now stronger.

Whether they have a better starting XI is more debatable and, beneath the sense of looming crisis, Arsenal have actually been in good form throughout 2013.

Recent history for this fixture suggests plenty of goals.

Betting: Home 21-10, Away 12-5, Draw 13-5.

Stat of the game: The last five Premier League meetings between these sides at The Emirates have produced 30 goals.

Arsenal (Probable, 4-2-3-1): Szczesny; Sagna, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Gibbs; Ramsey, Wilshere; Walcott, Rosicky, Cazorla; Giroud.

Out: Arteta (thigh), Diaby, Oxlade-Chamberlain (both knee), Podolski (hamstring), Vermaelen (back).

Tottenham (Probable, 4-2-3-1): Lloris; Walker, Dawson, Vertonghen, Rose; Capoue, Paulinho; Townsend, Dembélé, Chadli; Soldado.

Out: Bale, Lennon (both foot), Assou-Ekotto, Adebayor (both match fitness).

Preview: Frankfurt v Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund head to Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday knowing that a victory will propel them above Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich.

Jurgen Klopp's men, who were deposed as German champions by Bayern last season before losing to them in the final of the UEFA Champions League, go into the game with a 100 per cent record following their 1-0 win against Werder Bremen last Friday.

Dortmund have yet to lose in any form of competitive football this season, also claiming a 4-2 victory against Bayern in the DFL Supercup in July.

Still, Klopp's men will have unhappy memories of this fixture from the previous campaign, when Frankfurt twice came from behind to claim a 3-3 draw in a thrilling encounter.

The visitors are likely to be heavy favourites going into this one, though, with Armin Veh's side's only league win coming against Eintracht Braunschweig last Sunday.

Klopp still expects a tough game against Frankfurt - who should be in buoyant mood after securing qualification for the group stages of the UEFA Europa League with a 4-1 aggregate win over Qarabag.

"I saw the Frankfurt game yesterday (Thursday), they looked fairly good," Klopp said.

"We not only have to play against Eintracht Frankfurt, but also against their huge euphoria.

"I expect an intense game."

Dortmund approach the game with a near fully fit squad, midfielder Ilkay Gundogan (back) and Lukasz Piszczek (hip) their only absentees.

Frankfurt are still without striker Srdjan Lakic (back) - on loan from Wolfsburg - while right-back Sebastian Jung (muscle tear) and attacking midfielder Marc Stendera (knee ligament) are both definitely out.

Robert Lewandowski has put the fallout from his failed move to Bayern behind him to net two goals in his opening three games.

The Pole is not the only star in the Dortmund attack, with the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Marco Reus all in line to feature, and they should be confident of hitting the target against a Frankfurt side that has already conceded seven goals this term.

Preview: Real Madrid vs. Athletic Bilbao

Real Madrid will attempt to make it nine points from three league games when they welcome a new-look Athletic Bilbao side to the Bernabeu in Sunday's early start.

The Gareth Bale saga continues to develop in the Spanish capital, but Madrid have made a positive start to the campaign with back-to-back wins over Real Betis and Granada last time out.

Bilbao, now under the stewardship of Ernesto Valverde, have also been in impressive form, however, with victories over Real Valladolid and Osasuna giving them six points after the same number of games.

They have not enjoyed facing Madrid in recent seasons, however, losing each of their last five matches with the former Spanish champions, conceding 18 goals in the process.

Madrid will still be without the services of Sami Khedira and Asier Illarramendi, but the midfield pair have both returned to first-team training this week.

Trio Mesut Ozil, Angel di Maria and Karim Benzema have all been linked with moves away from the Bernabeu in recent weeks, but all three should start this weekend.

Daniel Carvajal will also hope for a spot at right-back, but Alvaro Arbeloa's performance against Granada last time out could keep the Spaniard in the team.

Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera has been the subject of a bid from Manchester United on Friday, but it appears that the Basque outfit are unwilling to sell the midfielder, meaning that he should start in the middle of their midfield.

Aritz Aduriz should also keep his place in attack alongside Iker Muniain, but summer signing from Osasuna Kike Sola is also pushing for a place.

Possible lineups

Madrid: Lopez; Arbeloa, Pepe, Ramos, Marcelo; Modric, Isco, Ozil; Di Maria, Ronaldo, Benzema

Bilbao: Iago; Iraola, Laporte, Saborit, Gurpegui; Herrera, Benat, Iturraspe; Muniain, Aduriz, Sola

Juventus vs Lazio, Preview: Twice in two weeks!

Lazio will be out to avenge a 4-0 Super Cup defeat when they travel to Turin to face Juventus in the pick of the Week 2 matches.

The Bianconeri have picked up from exactly where they left off last season. Fresh from defeating Lazio two weeks ago, Juve came away from a tricky game at Sampdoria 1-0 winners last weekend.

The visitors also managed to start their Serie A campaign with a victory, although Udinese made them work hard for a 2-1 victory.

Despite selling Alessandro Matri to AC Milan this week, Juventus still have plenty of attacking options available. New signing Fernando Llorente may have to settle for a place on the bench again as Antonio Conte continues with the forward pairing of Carlos Tevez and Mirko Vucinic. The Argentine has netted in his first two outings in a black and white shirt.

Conte isn't expected to make any changes to his winning side. Paul Pogba will continue to deputise for the injured Claudio Marchisio, while Stephan Lichtsteiner faces his former club.

Lorik Cana could feature for Lazio despite coming off at half time in the Udinese game. The Albanian escaped muscle damage and is available to renew a central defensive partnership with new signing Diego Novaretti. Czech striker Libor Kozak has surprisingly been left out of the matchday squad, which could be a clear indication that his future lies away from Rome. Miroslav Klose will lead the line for the Eagles, despite not scoring against Juventus in eight previous attempts.

Although Lazio got the better of their opponents over two legs in last season's Coppa Italia, Juventus have the more superior head-to-head league record. The Bianconeri have won six of the last nine league meetings in Turin, with the other three being draws. Lazio escaped this fixture last season with a 0-0 draw, thanks in part to a superb goalkeeping display by Federico Marchetti.

Schalke 04 - Bayer Leverkusen: Preview

NEW-LOOK SCHALKE EYEING FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

FC Schalke 04 will be looking for their first Bundesliga victory of the season on Saturday evening when they entertain Bayer 04 Leverkusen, who are yet to drop a point so far this campaign (kick-off 18.30 CET).Schalke have been busy in the transfer market this week, sealing deals for Dennis Aogo from Hamburger SV (loan) and Kevin-Prince Boateng from Serie A giants AC Milan. Leverkusen, meanwhile, added more firepower to their already fearsome attack with the loan signing of Eren Derdiyok from 1899 Hoffenheim.

Eventful week

It has been a busy few days for Schalke. The Schalke have been busy in the transfer market this week, sealing deals for Dennis Aogo from Hamburger SV (loan) and Kevin-Prince Boateng from Serie A giants AC Milan. Leverkusen, meanwhile, added more firepower to their already fearsome attack with the loan signing of Eren Derdiyok from 1899 Hoffenheim.

Eventful week

It has been a busy few days for Schalke. They discovered their fate in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League following a play-off victory over PAOK FC, before then entering the transfer market once more to seal deals for two seasoned Bundesliga professionals in Aogo and Boateng. "Dennis is a player whose versatility will be a big help to us," said sporting director Horst Heldt. "He gives us plenty of options."

Boateng, whose brother Jerome plays for FC Bayern Munich, is excited at the prospect of playing for die Königsblauen. "I'm delighted to join a club like Schalke 04," he said. "The Bundesliga is the best league in the world and the best players belong there. It was an easy decision for me and I'm happy to be home," said the 26-year-old, who could go straight into the matchday squad this weekend, over four years since the last of his 52 Bundesliga appearances.

Blues depleted

The hosts have a number of first-team regulars missing for Saturday's encounter. Christian Fuchs and Benedikt Höwedes, who both saw red against Hannover 96 last weekend, miss out through suspension, while Klaas-Jan Huntelaar remains sidelined with the knee injury he picked up at VfL Wolfsburg. Kyriakos Papadopolous, Chinedu Obasi and Anthony Annan are yet to return to fitness. Hungarian international Adam Szalai will continue to spearhead the attack.

Sami Hyypiä is likely to keep faith with the team that has notched up three straight Bundesliga victories for Leverkusen. Substitute goalkeeper Niklas Lomb and youngster Dominik Kohr are his side's only absentees, while signing Eren Derdiyok is likely to start on the bench. Stefan Kießling, Sidney Sam and Heung-Min Song will lead the attack for die Werkself.
Good Gelsenkirchen record

Leverkusen can set a new club record with victory over Schalke on Saturday. Never before have Bayer won their first four Bundesliga matches. They boast a good record at the home of the Royal Blues, too, having only lost two of their previous 15 visits to Gelsenkirchen, drawing seven and winning six.

Hyypiä believes Schalke's victory over PAOK could prove to be a turning point in their season, however. "They are likely to have gained confidence from their Champions League success. Maybe they'll improve on Saturday," he said. "We have to focus on ourselves. It's important we start quickly and with the right intensity and do everything in our power to win."

Possible line-ups:

Schalke: Hildebrand - Uchida, Matip, Felipe Santana, Aogo - Neustädter - Höger, Jones - Farfan, Draxler - Szalai

Leverkusen: Leno - Hilbert, Toprak, Spahic, Boenisch - Bender, Reinartz, Castro - Sam, Kießling, Son

Evian Thonon Gaillard v Lyon: Preview

Lyon have the chance to get their season back on track when they visit rock-bottom Evian in Ligue 1 on Saturday.

Les Gones started their league campaign with consecutive victories over Nice and Sochaux before they went down to a 1-0 defeat by Reims last week.

That was followed by their exit from the Champions League in midweek after a 4-0 aggregate defeat to Real Sociedad.

Today captain Maxime Gonalons acknowledged Lyon need to get back to form tomorrow against a side who have taken just one point from three games this season.

Yoann Gourcuff

He told reporters: ``It is a big game on Saturday against Evian, we have to get back into the flow to stop this negative spiral.

``It is not easy because we do not have a lot of recovery time.

``It is never easy to play this game, it is a small derby.

``They have a great desire, they go ahead and do not let go.''

Evian have lost their last two games after drawing with Sochaux in their first game of the season and last week they went down 2-1 to Rennes.

They need to accumulate some points if they are not to repeat the struggles of last year.

Coach Pascal Dupraz said: ``Obviously, we hoped for a better start to the season than this one.

``I still think our efforts deserved a better outcome, except for the first half against Rennes.

``But still, it is not by chance.

``If we are there (bottom), it is for a reason. We must therefore strive to achieve results.''

Of tomorrow's opponents, he added: ``We did not expect to be last when we play against Lyon. This adds to the difficulty of the moment.

``Lyon made a good start to the season, despite the defeat against Reims, where they were clearly unlucky.

``OL have high ambitions in the league, they are going to come to win.

``As for us, we will try to stay very focused and determined to erase the difference between the two teams.''

Paris Saint-Germain vs EA Guingamp Preview

Blanc's men look to build on Nantes win

The French champions finally recorded their first victory of the new season last week and will be hoping to kickstart their title defence.

Paris Saint-Germain could welcome Jeremy Menez back into their squad for Saturday's visit of Guingamp to the Parc des Princes in Ligue 1.

The France international has not featured since the end of last term due to a back injury, which required surgery in the close-season, but he returned to training on Tuesday and Laurent Blanc could utilise the winger in an attempt to shake up PSG's stuttering start to the season.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic-PSG

The champions picked up their first league victory of the campaign last week, triumphing 2-1 at Nantes thanks to Ezequiel Lavezzi's late winner, having previously drawn with Montpellier and Ajaccio.

Menez told the club's official website: "I had my operation on July 9, which went well. I then had to stay at home, often for an elongated time.

"I have good feelings, and it is good to return to the group. I feel very good, I'm glad. Not being able to be at the training ground was hard, but it was for my own good.

"This motivated me and pushed me to work daily. This is the main thing that I will remember from this period."

Menez's return means Blanc has no injuries or suspensions to concern him ahead of the match against the newly promoted side, who also grabbed their first three points of the season last weekend.

Two goals from Mustapha Yatabare sealed a 2-0 win over Lorient, with Jocelyn Gourvennec's side having previously lost to Marseille and Saint-Etienne.

Veteran striker Cedric Faure remains on the sidelines with a calf injury, while defender Gregory Cerdan missed last week's match due to personal reasons and may be unavailable again.

Yatabare was Ligue 2's top scorer last season as the Breton club secured promotion in second place, but Gourvennec will be hoping for his team-mates to ease the goalscoring burden upon him as he the only Guingamp player to have found the net so far this term.

Preview: Liverpool FC - Manchester United

Liverpool FC - Manchester United 01/09/2013

Liverpool and Manchester United face each other in the first of the big Sunday clashes of the Premier League.

Liverpool comes into this match after two wins in the first two games of the Premier League and if they win this one, they will break the tradition since 1994 without three consecutive wins at the start of the tournament. This match is the first serious test for the new team of Brendan Rogers, who has very high goals.

Last season Liverpool managed to record just a single victory (against Tottenham) against teams from the top six of the standings. This will have to change if the team wants to keep their chances of qualifying in the Champions League.

Crucial for the outcome of the meeting could be the key battle between Daniel Sturridge(2.50 or 6/4 to score) and Nemanja Vidic. The Liverpool striker makes impressive performance with 10 goals in his last 8 appearances for the team in all competitions. Another key player is Steven Gerrard(4.33 or 10/3 to score), who has scored 4 goals in their last 6 games against United.

Manchester United are unbeaten in their last 13 away matches in the Premier League - the longest series in the league. Usually, David Moyes finds it hard to beat Liverpool with former team Everton, having achieved only 3 wins from 22 games and none of them was at Anfield.

Robin van Persie(2.20 or 6/5 to score) has proved himself capable of scoring against this opponent by scoring 4 times in his last three matches against Liverpool - two for Man. United and two for Arsenal. Wayne Rooney madehis return to the starting lineup of the Reds in a goalless draw with Chelsea and he will be hungry for wins and goals.

We expect another exciting show from the Premier League, in which to witness a great competitions of coaching tactics and personal qualities of top players.

UEFA Champions League Draw

Tough Champions League draw for Arsenal increases pressure on Arsene Wenger to find recruits.

Gunners play last year’s finalists Dortmund and big spenders Napoli in the Champions League

Arsenal were put under further pressure to spend in the transfer market when they were drawn in the hardest group in the Champions League.

Arsène Wenger’s side, who have made just two free signings this summer, were last night drawn in Group F with Marseilles, Borussia Dortmund and Napoli. Given injuries – Lukas Podolski is out for 10 weeks – and departures, there is even more of a need to spend in the final days of the transfer window – even after yesterday’s arrival of Mathieu Flamini on a free transfer – if they want to qualify for the last 16.

Drawing Dortmund and Napoli from pots three and four respectively made it the hardest draw Arsenal could have received, despite being seeded in pot one. Dortmund were last year’s beaten finalists, losing 2-1 to Bayern Munich at Wembley. They won the Bundesliga in both 2010-11 and 2011-12 and have proved their ability to play attacking, energetic football, despite the departures of key players.

This summer they lost Mario Götze to Bayern Munich for €37m (£31m) but have reinvested the money, signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Shakhtar Donetsk – beating off interest from Liverpool – as well as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Saint-Etienne and Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Werder Bremen. Jürgen Klopp’s team have started the season well, beating Bayern 4-2 in the German Super Cup last month.

Napoli are another side who have sold big and reinvested this summer, spending the £53m they received from Paris Saint-German for Edinson Cavani on Gonzalo Higuain, Pepe Reina, Jose Maria Callejon, Raul Albiol, Dries Mertens and more, and are now managed by the former Chelsea interim coach Rafael Benitez.

Marseilles are the least-threatening side in the group but still finished second in Ligue 1 last season and have the talented Ghanaian international winger Andre Ayew and France midfielder Mathieu Valbuena.

Even Manchester City, seeded in pot three, have an easier group than Arsenal, with Bayern Munich, CSKA Moscow and Viktoria Plzen, raising their hopes that they might progress out of the group stage after two unsuccessful attempts.

Bayern, the reigning European champions who are competing in tonight’s Super Cup, are obviously City’s hardest opponent. City will be returning to the ground where, in September 2011, they lost 2-0 and there was the infamous touchline dispute between Roberto Mancini and Carlos Tevez. Bayern have arguably improved since then, winning the Bundesliga and Champions League last season and this summer bringing in coach Pep Guardiola and young midfielders Götze and Thiago Alcantara.

Unlike in previous years, the other two teams might prove less difficult. But CKSA Moscow, the Russian champions, have impressive firepower in Seydou Doumbia, Alan Dzagoev and Ahmed Musa, as well as Russia’s international goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev.

The fourth team are lower-profile. Viktoria Plzen won their second-ever Czech title last season, and play in front of just 11,700 fans in the Doosan Arena. In their first Champions League experience, in 2011-12, they finished third behind Barcelona and Milan.

Champions: Bayern Munich won the trophy at Wembley in May and will be looking
to retain it under new coach Pep Guardiola

Manchester United and Chelsea were rewarded with easier groups than Arsenal or City. This is David Moyes’ first year in the Champions League and while United will face three good teams, it is not a comparable challenge. United will have to make the long journey to Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine, where they will face a team who are always dangerous even after this summer’s sales – Fernandinho, Razvan Rat and Mkhitaryan have all left. Douglas Costa – who United failed to sign from Gremio in 2010 – is there, along with new arrival Bernard, the 20-year-old Brazilian who won the Copa Libertadores with Atletico Mineiro this summer.

Real Sociedad have had their own departures – coach Philippe Montanier and midfielder Asier Illarramendi – but they beat Lyons so well in the play-off that they should be considered difficult, technical opponents.

Bayer Leverkusen finished third in the Bundesliga last season and will not be a popular opponents for United after the memories of 2002. That year they beat United in the Champions League semi-final, fighting back to draw 2-2 at Old Trafford in the first leg before holding United to a 1-1 draw in the BayArena. They went on to lose the final 2-1 to Real Madrid, while United did not get to another European Cup final until 2008.

Chelsea, who won the Europa League last season after being eliminated from the Champions League at the group stage, have a comfortable-looking draw in Group E, the easiest an English team was given – including two teams they beat in last year’s Europa League run.

Jose Mourinho’s side will play FC Basel, the Swiss champions whom they beat 5-2 in the semi-final last season. Basel, who have attacking talent in Mohamed Salah, Valentin Stocker and Marco Streller, had knocked out Tottenham in the quarter-finals. Chelsea will also face Steaua Bucharest, whom they beat 3-2 on aggregate in the round of 16. The hardest opponents will be the Bundesliga side Schalke 04, who reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2011 when they were well beaten 6-1 by Manchester United. In Julian Draxler they have one of the most exciting teenagers in Europe.

Celtic have been rewarded for their 3-2 aggregate win over Shakhter Karagandy with another difficult group, at least as hard as Arsenal’s, as Group H includes Barcelona, Milan and Ajax.

Last year Neil Lennon’s side famously beat Barcelona at home on their way to qualifying from their group and meeting Juventus in the last 16. This group, though, is even harder. Milan just overcame a good PSV Eindhoven side in the play-offs while Frank de Boer’s Ajax have won the last three Dutch titles.

Champions League groups:

Group A: Manchester United, Shakhtar Donetsk, Bayer Leverkusen, Real Sociedad
Group B: Real Madrid, Juventus, Galatasaray, Copenhagen
